ERPD Reminds Motorists of State Law Pertaining to School Buses

August 12, 2021 By Contributed Article Leave a Comment

School has started in Hamilton County and buses are running.

The East Ridge Police Department wishes to remind drivers that state law requires drivers to “stop the vehicle before reaching the school bus, and the driver shall not proceed until the school bus resumes motion or is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed or the visual signals are no longer actuated” when the bus has stopped on the highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children.

This applies to all roadways in East Ridge except those divided by a median not used for vehicular traffic such as where Ringgold Road crosses I-75. East Ridge Police will be monitoring bus routes morning and afternoon for the next few weeks and strictly enforcing this law. Please be aware of the safety of the children.
