According to a police report, officers were dispatched to Jenkins Restaurant at 4134 Ringgold Road on Sunday morning on a burglary call. An officer spoke with the owner of the restaurant who told him that there was a burglar alarm call at the business on Saturday night that was checked out by an employee and law enforcement. Nothing seemed to be amiss.
The report states that the owner came into the restaurant on Sunday morning, opened the safe and noticed a large amount of cash was missing. The report states that between $4,000 and $5,000 in cash was taken from the safe.
The owner checked surveillance video and saw the manager setting the alarm and leaving the building at about 10:20 p.m. on Saturday. The video shows about 30 seconds later a suspect moving to the safe. The suspect was wearing a gray sweatshirt and pants with a black mask and hood. The report states that the suspect can clearly be seen working on the lock of the safe before closing it and re-locking it. The suspect appears to know the location of the video cameras as his/her face is hidden during passing, the report states.
In conjunction with the Saturday evening alarm call, officers were told that a black male was seen leaving the area of Jenkins Restaurant and running across Ringgold Road with a bag in his hands. A search of the area was done and nobody was located.
At the time of the police report, officers had not spoken with the night manager. However, police did speak with another employee present during closing and he confirmed that all outside doors to the business were locked when they left on Saturday evening.
_ Aggravated Robbery: Early Sunday evening police responded to a robbery from person call in the 1300 block of Laredo Avenue. According to a police report, when officers arrived they found a male victim who told them that two white males had approached him while he was sitting in his carport and robbed him. The victim said the one of the men asked to use his phone. The report states that the other man struck the victim in the head with a night stick. A large amount of blood was observed on the victim’s head, the report states. In addition, blood was smeared on the rear wall of the car port. A pool of blood was on the floor, as well as a bloody footprint.
The victim described the man who struck him as being a middle-aged white male wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and having short black hair and a mustache. The victim was unable to describe the second suspect. The victim told officers he was missing his wallet, which contained $22 cash, his ID and a credit card.
The report states that the victim’s wife had left to go to the grocery store when the robbery happened. She was gone no more than 15 minutes, and when she returned she found her husband laying on the floor.
Police searched the area but were unable to locate the suspects, the report states.
