25-010981- 3100 BLK Ringgold Road- Crash/ Downed Wires – Officers responded to Ringgold Road and South Seminole Drive for reports of downed lines. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a semi carrying a “wide load” apparently thought he could squeeze through the tunnels, emphasis on thought. When reality set in that the tunnels were not, in fact, wide load approved, the driver attempted to turn around. In doing so, he managed to pull down power lines and traffic signals. Tennessee Highway Patrol arrived to assist, inspect the semi, and issue what we can only assume were some financially painful citations. After being released, the driver decided to test his luck again and ignored THP’s direction to stay on Ringgold Road. He instead turned onto Germantown Road, immediately striking another set of traffic signals. Still undeterred, the driver continued down Germantown Road, where he contacted the I-24 overpass, proving once and for all that sometimes “wide load” means stop trying to fit everywhere. He then reversed and headed toward South Terrace, causing even more property damage along the way. THP was once again called to the scene. Westbound Ringgold Road to the tunnels and one eastbound lane remained closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up the chaos.
