Pioneer Rally Falls Short Against Sequoyah

October 13, 2017 By Dick Cook Leave a Comment

Sequoyah edged East Ridge, 38-29, Friday night at Raymond James Stadium in Region 2-4A high school football.

East Ridge dropped to 5-3 on the year, 1-3 in region play. The Pioneers will host Howard next Friday and must win out to have any chance at a playoff spot.

After building a 31-6 lead, the Chiefs survived a furious Pioneer comeback in the second half.

Quarterback Eric Bennett amassed 263 yards through the air (13-24-2) and led the second-half charge. Bennett finished the game with four touchdown passes, three to Alonzo Russell in the second half and a 57-yarder  to Kashaun Cosey in the first quarter that gave the Pioneers its only lead of the game.

Cosey finished the night with 149 yards receiving. Russell’s catches totaled 83 yards.
