Pioneers Rally for Win over Howard

October 15, 2016 By Dick Cook Leave a Comment

East Ridge got two fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally past Howard, 13-7, Friday night at Shanks Field/Raymond James Stadium in a key Region 3/3A football game.

Howard jumped out 7-0 in the second quarter after Juwan Gamble recovered a fumble by his own running back in the Pioneers’ end zone.

East Ridge found its stride in the fourth quarter. The Pioneers tied the game after Jordan Lindsey hauled in a nine-yard scoring pass. C.J. Bond’s conversion was true.

The Pioneers mounted what would be the winning drive with 2:50 left in the game. Traneil Moore rambled 29 yards for the score, but the conversion was blocked.

However, it took a B.J. Church interception to secure the come-from-behind win.

The win evened the Pioneers overall record to 4-4, 2-2 in region play. East Ridge will travel to Loudon in a non-region contest next week, then take on Chattanooga Christian on the road on Oct. 28 in a region match-up.
