Police Briefs Jan. 24

On Tuesday night, police were called to Wendy’s on Ringgold Road after staff said there was a woman in the restroom who was completely naked. Upon arrival, police made contact with the woman who was in the process of getting dressed. The woman told officers that she was attempting to change clothes and purchase a meal. It was discovered that the woman had no money, so officers bought her a meal and drove her back to the Budgetel Inn where she said she had a room. Police were later called throughout the night on a suspicious person who was wandering around in the area. It turned out to be the same woman who police had dropped off at the Budgetel earlier. It was determined that the woman was recently released from jail and had nowhere to go. The woman rejected any resources offered by police to help.

_ 1410 Mack Smith Rd.: Michael Ferney, 31, of a Ringgold, Georgia address, was taken into custody and transported to Hamilton County Jail for warrants out of Georgia, Tuesday evening. Ferney was discovered to have warrants after police were called out to the Budgetel Inn in reference to a suspicious vehicle.

_ 1410 Mack Smith Rd.: Police were called to the Budgetel on Tuesday in regard to counterfeit money. A man paid for a room at the motel with a fake hundred dollar bill. Staff discovered the deception and called police. When officer went to the man’s room, he wasn’t there. Police spoke with two other men who were inside the room. Subjects were told to vacate. Management at the motel have not decided whether to prosecute for the $29.25 given back to the man in change.

_ 5310 Clemons Rd.: Paramedics with CHI Memorial reported that an unknown male attempted to burglarize an ambulance while it was parked at the Southern Heritage Assisted Living Center on Wednesday evening. The paramedics said that a white male in a dark hoodie opened the back door of the ambulance and attempted to take a monitor from the ambulance. A paramedic confronted the man and he immediately took off in a dark colored, late model Toyota minivan. No further suspect information.

_ Welworth Avenue at Yale Street: The city’s Codes Enforcement Division requested police search the southeast corner of the intersection for people possibly living in a tent or car on the abandoned lot. Police could find no one on the property. Codes enforcement officers requested police keep an eye on the lot for any activity.

_ 3715 Ringgold Rd.: James Polk, a 24-year-old homeless man, was taken into custody and served with East Ridge warrants for Aggravated Child Abuse, Domestic Assault and Interference with Emergency Calls on Tuesday night. According to booking reports from the Hamilton County Jail, Polk was jailed on violating his probation theft charges. He was also charged with Fraudulent use of a Credit Card and Burglary of an Auto.

_ 4348 Ringgold Rd.: Police were called to the Sonic on Tuesday in regard to counterfeit money. The reporting party advised a man tried to purchase a water with a fake 20-dollar bill. He left the scene upon realizing the bill was fake. A silver Nissan with a Tennessee tag number was provided to police. Officers located the car in a driveway at 4800 Maryland Drive, but no one would come to the door.

_ 5378 Reneau Way: On Tuesday evening police were called to this address after the homeowners saw a white Chevy Malibu on their security cameras pull up to the mail box and take unknown items out of it. Registration on the vehicle was not visible from the video. The vehicle is one similar to one owned by a woman who has been charged with similar offenses in the past.

_ 6400 Ringgold Rd.: On Tuesday during a traffic stop, police apprehended Michael Jacob Glass, 23, of Chickamauga, Ga. wanted on warrants by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. Glass was wanted for Theft of Property, Burglary and Vandalism.
