Police Briefs March 21

March 21, 2019 By Dick Cook Leave a Comment

An Ealy Road man was arrested Wednesday on a domestic assault charge after he allegedly menaced his mother after she refused to give him money.

Tyler Lynn Garner, 26, of 4110 Ealy Road, was charged by East Ridge police with Domestic Assault, Possession of Schedule IV Drugs and Retaliation for Past Actions. He is due to appear in municipal court on April 30.

According to an affidavit of complaint, police were called to the address just after 11 p.m. regarding a disorder. When police arrived they spoke with Garner, who, according to the report, seemed agitated.

Officers spoke with the man’s mother who said that Garner wanted money from her, but she refused. The woman said that Garner attempted to steal her purse. During an argument, the woman said that Garner “busted down” her bedroom door. The woman told police that she was in fear during the encounter.

According to the report, when Garner was taken into custody police found a couple of Xanax pills in his shirt pocket. While being placed into the police cruiser, Garner allegedly said that he was going to “torture” all three officers present.

The report states that Garner was transported to the Hamilton County Jail without incident.

The following information was gleaned from department “pass along” reports for March 20.

1101 Spring Creek Road:Officers responded to this location to assist as the East Ridge Fire Department extinguished a mattress that had been set on fire.  The residents advised they called the City to retrieve the mattress but never received a return call.  They advised a decision was made to, instead, burn the mattress.  They said they were unaware of any prohibitions against taking such action.  The residents were instructed on the law, as it relates to burning, by the East Ridge Fire Department personnel.

Merrill Street / Ringgold Road: Dispatch received a call about a man holding a bag over his head and possibly trying to harm himself.  Officers responded to the location and encountered the male subject, who was observed sitting on a concrete partition.  The man advised officers he did not wish to harm himself.  He said he was at this location and in a bent-over position while he was praying.

3428 Bennett Road: Several pieces of equipment were reported as having been stolen from a construction trailer at this location.  The theft was said to have occurred around 6:40 a.m.  The victim of the theft listed a nail gun, leaf blower, and a case of caulk as items that were stolen.
