Red Bank edged East Ridge, 28-21, Friday night at Raymond James Stadium/Shanks Field in a Region 3-4A prep football game.

The loss was the first of the year for the Pioneers who are now 3-1 overall and 0-1 in region play. East Ridge will travel to Central next Friday and try to get back on its winning ways.

East Ridge’s senior Jeri Young ran for 78 yards on 22 carries and two touchdowns. All told, The Pioneers racked up 159 yards on the ground.

Quarterback Camrin Hollis was 12-for-15 through the air for 87 yards and a touchdown.

East Ridge controlled the ball for much of the game, converting seven of 13 third downs. What they failed to do was convert drives into points.

A 12-play drive late in the first half stalled inside the Lions’ 10-yard line, largely a victim to penalties. At the end of the night, East Ridge was flagged 11 times.

East Ridge never gave up. 

Young had a 6-yard run for a score with 10:30 left in the game which cut the deficit to 28-14. Red Bank coughed the ball up on its 28 with 1:38 left in the game and Hollis hit senior Jamari Jones for a 22-yard score with under a minute left in the contest.

A last gasp effort to regain possession with an onside kick was recovered by Red Bank.
