Red Wolves Edge Triumph, 3-2

June 23, 2019 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article 0 Comments

Photo by Jim Meyers – Red Wolves Steven Beattie scores the first of his three goals against the Triumph, Saturday night at David Stanton Field.

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC defeated Greenville Triumph SC 3-2 at David Stanton Field Saturday night. Forward Steven Beattie won the night, recording the first hat-trick in Red Wolves history.

After 19 minutes of back-and-forth play, the Red Wolves struck first. Beattie received a cross from midfielder Ami Pineda following a corner and headed the ball from the center of the box to find the net. Less than 20 minutes later, it would come time for Beattie’s second. Pineda found forward Juan Mare just outside of the box, who thenlobbed the ball across towards the six-yard line. Greenville’s Dominic Boland failed to get the clearance off, sending it back towards the goal, and Beattie was there at the right time to put it away.

Following a near two-hour inclement weather delay, the first half would see the Red Wolves up 2-0.

After returning to the pitch to begin the second half, Greenville’s Jake Keegan was able to complete a brace with two close range shots, leveling the match 2-2 in the 52nd and 62nd minutes. But Beattie answered in the 77th, smashing away a deflection off of a header into the net following a corner kick. The goal marked Beattie’s sixth of the season, putting him within one of the league leaders.

Despite the two goals conceded, goalkeeper Alex Mangels finished the night with five saves, one cross claimed and two punches. Pineda recorded a 92.5% passing accuracy, the highest of the night.

The Red Wolves remain unbeaten at David Stanton Field.  The team is back home next Saturday, June 29 to face Richmond Kickers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET. For tickets, visit chattredwolves.com/tickets.
