Red Wolves’ Zguro Named Player of the Week

October 3, 2019 By Dick Cook and Contributed Article Leave a Comment

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC midfielder Vangjel Zguro has been named the USL League One Player of the Week for Week 27 of the league’s inaugural 2019 season.

Zguro recorded one assist and had six key passes as the Red Wolves earned a 2-1 victory against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday night at David Stanton Field. The result kept Chattanooga in contention for the final place in the League One Playoffs as the regular season goes into its final week. The Albanian defender leads the team in assists with seven.

Zguro is joined by midfielder Ualefi on Team of the Week. The Brazilian midfielder notched his first goal from the penalty spot and completed 39 of 44 passes and won 6 of 9 duels on Saturday night. Ualefi is one of two players who has played every minute of every match this season, recording 2,430 minutes on the pitch.

Week 27 marks both Zguro’s and Ualefi’s second appearances on Team of the Week.

The two will be back in action this Saturday, as the team hosts Toronto FC II (8-10-8) at David Stanton Field for its last regular season game of the 2019 Inaugural Season.

Saturday’s match marks the team’s first-ever Fan Appreciation Night. The first 500 fans in the gate will receive an official 2019 team poster. Additionally, guests can enjoy 30% off all merchandise in the stadium, an autograph session on the field immediately following the game and $5 Supporters Section tickets. All kids under the age of 12 who are wearing a soccer jersey receive free admission.

The match has big playoff implications for the Red Wolves. If Forward Madison FC (11-9-7) loses or ties to second place Lansing Ignite FC (12-5-10) at Cooley Law School Stadium, the Red Wolves could clinch the fourth and final playoff spot if they pick up three points against Toronto. The Madison and Lansing match kicks off at 3p ET, and the Red Wolves kick off against Toronto at 7p ET.
