Over the weekend, HCSO corrections personnel were alerted to an unresponsive inmate at the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center.
HCSO corrections deputies and contract medical personnel administered medical aid, including CPR and an AED shock. The inmate was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The inmate, identified as Dennis Gann, had a known medical history involving multiple chronic illnesses. He was being monitored in accordance with standard facility procedures and had been observed behaving normally less than 30 minutes before being found unresponsive.
The District Attorney was notified, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating. Once the investigation is complete, all findings will be turned over to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
Gann had been in custody at the Hamilton County Jail & Detention Center (HCJDC) since October 19 following a vehicle pursuit. He was facing charges of Felony Evading, Reckless Driving, Driving on Revoke, and Unlawful Removal of Registration Plate.
The HCSO asks that you keep Gann’s family and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time.
This is the second in-custody death to occur at the HCJDC this year. This information is preliminary and subject to change.
